This month (and last) The Peevish Penman Peevbody is being awarded to two exceptional writers.
For February in the category of Improvement of Writing, Wookies Girl aka Dorothy Figenshaw nominated by Paula Kelly and Terry Hoffman who testify:
I have been working with Wookies Girl, copy editing and proofreading her poetry and prose, since April of 2010. When we began our partnership, she needed help with grammar, diction, word choices, ad redundancy. WG edited tirelessly, making revision after revision, never giving me attitude about my persnickety punctuation corrections. She told me she wanted to learn. Learn she did. Change tends to happen slowly, and I am sure there was a gradual decrease in the number of edits, drafts, revisions we did on each piece. She's vastly prolific, evidenced by her web site, and perhaps this is why I didn't notice until...One day I was checking a poem for her and said, "You know what? I wouldn't change a damn thing!" Since then, there are usually just some punctuation changes to make or a word here and there, but her poems are pretty much fully realized and ready to go. I'm profoundly proud of her. ~Paula Kelly
And for March, the Peevbody is given to F Magazine nominated by Emily Hutto for Outstanding Support of Writers. Emily writes:
Portland has a community of young writers who are starting F: the relevant women's magazine. F arose from our growing weariness of female-targeted media. We're tired of being pandered to about Botox and boyfriend in the condescending language that defines the typical modern women's magazine. We're combating this stereotype with a sharp-looking, smart publication about real, pertinent issues. Content will include everything from Oregon's environmental laws to the Y generation's struggle with recession, to one woman's awkward journey through her sex life. These writers are on a mission to create an accurate, engaging media source.
Congratulations to both Wookie's Girl and F Magazine. The Peevbody seeks to acknowledge writers who make the world of writing a better place by personal improvement or support to others. In addition to the Peevbody Award, recipients are eligible for the $100 USD Writer's Grant awarded next September.
Help us select the best writers to receive this award and the most deserving to receive the writer's grant by nominating a writer with our form here. Though filling out the form may only take five minutes, the writers who may receive the Peevbody have worked long hours to hone their craft and provide support to others. They deserve recognition.

I have personally witnessed this woman spend countless hours in pursuit of learning her craft. She attends workshops and communicates regularly with a host of writers and editors to learn new techniques and styles to better herself. All while maintaining a demanding job and family. The writing bug bit her barely over a year ago and she has never looked back. It has truly become the love of her life. ~Terry Hoffman
